You know they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I dont think Nintendo will be all too flattered when it gets a load of the controversial Mario-like platform game Super Chick Sisters featured on Newgrounds.com.
Admit it, you like meat.
Youre not picky, you like all kinds, beef, pork and chicken and every once in a while you enjoy biting into a nice juicy piece of KFC original recipe chicken, right? No harm, no foul as they say! Well PETA thinks so! In fact they have even gone as far as sponsoring a game called Super Chick Sisters and by playing it they hope to shock, shame and downright disgust you!
The premise is an absolute head-scratcher let me tell you, as part of their campaign against the evil poultry giants at KFC they implore/demand that you kick the bucket of Finger Lickin' Goodness forever!
A platform game, or platformer, is a video game jumping on platforms or over obstacles is the major part of the gameplay action. Platformers first originated sometime in the mid 1980s, and is still one of the most popular genres in gaming today. And Nintendos Mario is the second most recognizable character after Mickey Mouse in the world.
Wow ingenous, what a great way to get the whole worlds attention to an otherwise, at times just okay, simple, short, 5 level flash game!
about how KFC tortures their chickens (I will spare you the gory details here though.)
Thats right pilgrim, you play the game as one of two chicks, Nugget or Chickette, each a blatant rip-off of Mario and Luigi (even down to their little red and green hats), on a quest to rescue the kidnapped Pamela Anderson (Princess Peach) from the evil Colonel Sanders for giving away the KFC secret recipe (apparently the flavor comes from animal cruelty!)
SideNote: You can play the game as Pam Anderson as well; just enter the code "GOPAM!"
Better call in the Mario Bros!
What? They cant come because they both broke their arms from playing the Wii too much?
Oh, well better call in the Super Chick Sisters!
So can you bring KFC to justice and see to it that the corporation's evil treatment of chickens is stopped! Or will they all end up as a bucket of blood with a side of slaw?
No really! It comes jam-packed with stomach-turning facts about industrial farming and animal cruelty. After playing this, if you still want to dig into a bargain bucket of chicken carcasses, then youre pretty much guaranteed a seat in hell!
Look I get it okay-KFC treats their chickens badly and probably should have slightly more respect for the birds, but they are a fast food chicken restaurant! Major Newsflash, they are not raising chickens to have a healthy, happy and fruitful life; they are raising them until they are just plump and tender enough to cook.
KFC kills the chickens for us to eat! Gasp!
But this review isnt about the message, its about the game, so here goes: vegetarians will like the game for its message, and gamers will like because its a surprisingly really good platformer with decent controls and nice colorful graphics. But I gotta tell you the preachy propaganda that was constantly being shoved down my throat left a bad taste in my mouth.
Super Chick Sisters is somewhat of a sticky issue (damn honey barbecue sauce!) as the game might at first appear to be very cute and sweet but is really a PSA for PETAs beliefs which will probably turn a lot of people off. Its a shame really because the game is surprisingly challenging and fun to play.
Mmm crunchy, tastes like chicken!
EndNote: Hey PETA, for the record I dont disagree with your views because I eat at KFC-because the truth is-I don't. In fact I agree with your cause (to a point) what I do disagree with is how you go about getting your messages across. And while I have your attention, I gotta ask seriously, why use Mario characters? Why couldn't you just have gone and called it "Chick Sisters", and left out the Mario references, and just made it it's own game?
-Did you know PETA kills animals too-by the thousands? From July 1998 through the end of 2005, PETA killed over 14,400 dogs, cats, and other animals. Thats an average of 5 defenseless animals every day!
-Note to PETAs Senior Vice President, MaryBeth Sweetland, stop taking your insulin. After all, it was tested on animals.
-Poor Mario. Not only is saving Peach never going to get him any, now with Pamela Anderson playing her-it's practically guaranteed!
-I mean cmon, these are the same people who tried to get the term "pet owners" changed to "pet guardians", because they felt you can't ever own an animal.
-So once again, dont get me wrong, overall I think PETA is fighting a good cause, but its a shame that they overdo it so much. They tend to come off as radical extremists that condone violence that uses shock tactics to promote their beliefs.Check out "Super Chick Sisters" Here
